I, for one, thought that Chaucer's was really cool. I've never been there before - what a charming little pub! The only problem for me was the long table set-up, as I didn't get a chance to speak with many people... but I had a great time nonetheless.

You should be so proud of yourself for taking the initiative to put something like this together. I'm seriously impressed with the concept of the geek dinner, and glad that there's such a well organized new media community in London.

I find that whenever somebody succeeds MEGA at something, jealous little gremlin haters start to run their mouths. To paraphrase Katt Williams, if you've got haters - you know you're doing something right :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxxPLDZnqwA

Keep your chin up, guy - and PLEASE don't stop hosting the Geek Dinners - I've only just discovered this community and would love to become more involved!

Sorry you're feeling frustrated :( The good news is that last night was my first Geek Dinner, and I had a great time. I thought the venue was good, and the service was excellent. They kept the cola flowin' ;)

I had no idea it costs for meetup, but I totally understand where you are coming from and why you don't ask for money. With the Photo Walk, I know both I am James put out some money, (hosting/domain for james, which is nothing, and for me mailings and getting stuff organized for the world wide photo walk), and you know, I've never thought once about trying to get any money for it. Like you, if people from the community come out and enjoy it then really the cost is the very last thing I think of.

man, if you are leaving your laptop in your truck tonight let me know, I might have to make a "trip to the bathroom".

on a serious note, in my opinion this is about the community and regardless of venue or Wifi members of the community still will come out. Its about the people, not the place or technology.

As for kickbacks. well, thats about the stupidest thing I have ever heard
