Border Guards to search iPod’s

clipped from www.canada.com

Copyright deal could toughen rules governing info on iPods, computers

OTTAWA – The federal government is secretly negotiating an agreement to revamp international copyright laws which could make the information on Canadian iPods, laptop computers or other personal electronic devices illegal and greatly increase the difficulty of travelling with such devices.

The deal would create a international regulator that could turn border guards and other public security personnel into copyright police. The security officials would be charged with checking laptops, iPods and even cellular phones for content that “infringes” on copyright laws, such as ripped CDs and movies.

The guards would also be responsible for determining what is infringing content and what is not.

Anyone found with infringing content in their possession would be open to a fine.

They may also have their device confiscated or destroyed, according to the four-page document.

I don’t like this! Also can someone please tell me how the guards, some of whom can’t tell a sneeze from a wet fart let alone and iPod from a Zune, are going to tell what is infringing on copyright from stuff that I have currently, while it’s legal, ripped from a CD or downloaded in a legal non DRM’d ( read MP3 via eMusic) song!

Ban on Drive Throughts a bad idea.

So the city of London is planning on banning new drive throughs. I’m “cross posting” this here, with some elaboration, after I submitted it as a letter to the editor of the London Free Press on the lfpress.com website, and I’ve also posted it on BlogLDN. If anyone from the London Free Press or anywhere else wants to quote me here or contact me regarding this issue, or any other, I’m happy to talk, just soot me an email at bill@deys.ca

.

I take exception to the comments made by the opponents of drive throughs. If you ban drive throughs stores will need biger parking lots. Land is at a premium and London is getting bigger all the time. If stores like Tim Hortons and McDonalds need more space that is going to mean less green space and less land for agriculture.

.

Drive throughts keep stores smaller, make parking lots smaller and are a benefit to the environment. Banning drive throughts makes no sense. The ides was also proposed to limit the space for drive through lanes. Have to been near a Tim Hortons Drive through, who hasn’t, durring a morning rush. Even the store with large drive through capacity and lots of parking are a mess. Face it they can change traffice patterns. The Timmie in Byron has cars backed out onto the road, and blocking normal non-timmies traffic, most mornings.

.

I’ve always disagreed with most governmnet intervention to the practices of business, their way of doing things is just bad business! No wonder there is so much money waste! If you want to clean up the enviroment make people feel it’s uncool to use the drive through, that’s how Drinking and Driving is looked at now!

“Vodka Is Pretty Much The Same No Matter What Brand You Buy”

Total BS, I agree if you get “vaule brands” (Absolute, etc) they are all the same and the high end stuff is close to each other in comparison but I can tell an absolute from a grey goose from a Chopin (BEST) and potato vodka is the only way to go! In my opinionthere is three tiers of vodka. Normal Vodka (Absolute, etc,) for mixing with anything, High End (Grey Goose, Ketel One, etc,) I’d hate to mix it but I won’t hurt ya if you do, and High Quality Potato Vodka (Chopin, etc) that should never be mixed with anything but pure filtered ice!
clipped from consumerist.com

In what may have been the most awesome blind taste test ever, a BusinessWeek writer served his friends chilled shots of various brands of vodka to see whether there was any noticeable difference in taste. His argument was that vodka is a neutral spirit and by definition is nearly indistinguishable from one brand to the next—and that consequently the “brand story” (including country of origin) is really all that separates a Grey Goose drinker from a Ketel One alkie. To test this, he asked his subjects to pick their favorite brands from shots and mixed drinks.

It turns out, no one could really tell one vodka from the other—there was one successful pick, but it wasn’t repeatable. (Probably because the subjects were all half-drunk by that point.)
