Canadian iPhone held up for data plans

Regardless of whether or not thats what’s holding the iPhone up the data plans in Canada NEED to be changes. It’s crazy what we put up with and how much it’s holding us back. And don’t get me started on coverage or cell and braodband!

Costly service stalling Canadian iPhone release?

The tardiness of the iPhone release in Canada might be due to the exorbitantly priced data plans offered, an expert suggests.
In the U.S., AT&T offers iPhone plans starting at just $59.99 for 450 anytime minutes, 5000 additional night and weekend minutes, 200 text messages, and unlimited data. A comparable plan offered by Rogers Wireless, the only carrier able to support the iPhone’s GSM network, would cost $295/month with current rates:

- 500 minutes (Canada-wide, no rollover) – $60

- 500 additional evening and weekend minutes – $25

- 500 MB of data (no unlimited data offered) – $210

If Rogers does introduce the iPhone, it will have to make major changes to its data pricing, Dr. Geist said in an interview with Canada’s Notional Post yesterday. “I don’t see how you can have an iPhone with the pricing structure that they’re offering,” he said.
