Professional?

OK, you may not like what I have to say here, it’s a bit of a rant so…

This is all to do with Social Media/Interactive/Blah Blah Blah “Professionals.”

If you don’t have a blog why would anyone trust you.

If your not the first Google result for your name, and in on the first page for some important keywords your not doing it right.

If your using Blogger you need to move! There just aren’t enough options there.

If you don’t have a domain name for your blog you don’t know how to own the content. I don’t care if you use TypePad or WordPress.com but, pay for a domain and pay them to use it! If you move

If you don’t allow comments, or you moderate out any negative ones you don’t get the space.

I’m sure there’s more, maybe I’ll update st some point but I’m done for now.

</rant> And let the flame wars start in the comments below!

  • I agree with most of this, and also with the people pointing out grammar. While what you say is much more important than the words you use to say it, grammar and spelling mistakes do erode credibility just as much as Googleability mistakes.

I also wanna defend Blogger. As far as I know, it's the only service that gives you hosting, full customization of HTML, useful plugins, etc., all for free. A default template might not be the greatest, but there's no reason that a professional blog couldn't be created through Blogger. It's not the tools, it's how you use them.

P.S. I like Google's "did you mean: Bill Dies?" :)
  • I don't have an editor, and I know my writing sucks. Maybe some people think I should but I prefer to be a little more real and personal then that. I also hate to delay posts so.

There is also a whole different rant about the school system that taught me the way they did.

I also have opinion about the evolution of the English language but if people can't look past my crappy writing no biggie on me. I write for myself and anyone who want to read what (and how) I write.

Bill - I understand the passion however in your rant-induced fervor you might zip the post by someone who can correct your spelling and grammar. Whether I agree or disagree, I always enjoy good content but tend to get distracted by spelling and grammar errors. Rock on and keep the passion coming!

No flame intended, but if you're not working with an editor you may not know the difference between "your" and "you're."
