Sportsball Tech

Some savvy developers have already combined the two, like those working on MLB’s official At Bat app.

MLB’s At Bat app now plays highlight videos on your lock screen
In the past, I’ve never really been into sports much, aside from a few seasons of NFL years ago. That was due to the Sunday Ticket which was innovation that made it fun and easy to consume the media. Not much by today’s standards but good for the time. But, this season I’ve been really into following the MLB, specifically the Blue Jays, and I swear it is all to do with the technology they employ. The AtBat app is fabulous and constantly improving. I gladly pay to stream the games and they make it easy. From my computer, to iOS and the Apple TV, it all just works.

Getting Harder To Be A Kid

“The happy days of kicking a ball around at recess ended Monday after students took home a letter advising that henceforth, no child could bring a soccer ball, football, volleyball or even tennis ball to the junior and senior school in the area of Coxwell and Danforth Aves.

The letter stated that there have been a “few serious incidents” in which staff and students have been hit, or come close to being struck, by flying balls. From now on, only Nerf balls or sponge balls can be brought to school.”

(Via Toronto News: ‘Let them play ball,’ parents say of school’s ball ban – thestar.com.)

First is was a war on lemonade stands, now balls!

“Or come close to being struck”!?!?! Really almost being hit contributes to the ban!?! How the hell is a kid supposed to get hurt these days. God, these kids will never even have stitches let alone scars! How are they supposed to have experiences that make then productive members of society if they can’t even get hurt.

Now excuse me while I buy Nerf stock.
